Update 1/4/23:

SPD’s EDU has rendered the scene safe, and W 8th Ave has been re-opened. The investigation is being conducted by the law enforcement agency where the subject was transported from.  

Original release 1/4/23:

SPD’s Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) is currently investigating an incident at Sacred Heart Medical Center

On 01-04-2022 just after 2:30PM, SPD received a call regarding a potential explosive device at Sacred Heart Medical Center. EDU is currently investigating the object. The situation is currently contained; Sacred Heart Emergency Room is open, however there are traffic revisions on W 8th Ave while specialists mitigate the incident.

The investigation regarding what the object is remains active, however preliminary information indicates Sacred Heart was not specifically targeted; the potential device may have been inadvertently brought to the location by a subject receiving medical treatment.
