SPD conducts drug enforcement emphasis Downtown, arrests 5
On Friday January 27/2023, Downtown Precinct officers in cooperation with SPD’s Special Investigative Unit (SIU) and the Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), and supported by SWAT, conducted a drug enforcement emphasis in Downtown Spokane.
Within a 4 hour span, 5 people were arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on charges related to delivery of controlled substances. Officers seized drugs including fentanyl pills and methamphetamine as well as cash and one vehicle.
SPD recognizes drug dealing in our Downtown corridor is an ongoing problem and this emphasis is part of a redoubling of our effort to make Downtown safer and less desirable to those engaged in drug and criminal activity. The Police Department’s new staffing model implemented 3 weeks ago doubled the number of officers in the Downtown area and aided in making today’s emphasis possible.
