Welfare check leads to SPD Major Crimes Unit investigating a homicide
On February 9, 2023, around 7:00 pm, officers responded to the 500 block of W. Sinto Ave. for a welfare check. Daycare workers called 911 after they attempted to call a parent several times to pick up her children. When police arrived at the residence for the welfare check, they located a deceased female who had already succumbed to her obvious traumatic injuries. SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the scene.
A short time later, patrol officers located the homicide suspect near the 1900 block of W. Sunset and identified him as Jean P. Kirkpatrick (45). He was taken into custody without incident. Kirkpatrick was booked into the Spokane County Jail for Murder in the 2nd degree.
Kirkpatrick has 11 prior felony convictions which include several thefts in the 1st degree and thefts in the 2nd degree. Within the past month Kirkpatrick was convicted of two misdemeanors, DV no contact order violation and interfering with DV report.
This is an on-going investigation. The victim’s identity will be released by the medical examiner’s office at a later date.
