Suspicious Death Leads To Two Arrests

Correction 2/28/23:

The suspect arrested at the residence near the 1300 block of E. Garland Ave, was identified as Chandler A. Andrews (28).  The other suspect who was located at a different location in north Spokane was identified as Jason M. Jones (47).  The location of each suspect’s arrest is corrected in the release below.

Suspicious death in Elk, WA leads to two arrests in Spokane

On February 23, 2023 around 2:30 pm, Spokane Police Officers were dispatched to a residence near the 1300 block of E. Garland Ave for a welfare check.  A female called 911 saying her boyfriend was missing for several days.  Patrol officer arrived at the location and searched the house but the male was not located.       

February 24, 2023 around 8:00 am, the Spokane County Sheriff’s office responded to a suspicious death in Elk, WA.  Deputies determined the deceased male was the same male SPD was looking for the day prior.  SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the scene in Elk.  Information was quickly developed that the residence near the 1300 block of E. Garland Ave was associated with the suspicious death.

SPD’s SWAT team along with MCU surrounded the residence and were able to detain one male without incident.  He is identified as Jason M. Jones (47).  Another male was located by MCU in north Spokane and was also detained without incident.  He is identified as Chandler A. Andrews (28).  Both were booked into the Spokane County Jail for murder in the 2nd  degree.  

Andrews has seven prior felonies which include prior drug offenses, unlawful possession of a firearm in the 2nd degree, no contact order violations on two separate counts, attempt to elude, assault in the 3rd degree, and trafficking stolen property.

Jones has no prior felony convictions.

This is an on-going investigation.  The victim’s identity and cause of death, will be released by the medical examiner’s office at a later date.
