On 3-5-24 at 4:48 a.m., SPD responded to a burglary in the 800 block of West Riverside Avenue after a delivery service observed an open door to a business. Upon arriving, officers found the front the door glass had been smashed with a rock and the cash register stolen from the location. It appeared the cash register was the focus of the crime as nothing else in the business seemed disturbed. The victim of the burglary arrived and provided officers with security camera photos showing the suspect inside the location. The photos were distributed to SPD officers.

On 3-8-24 at about 11:28 a.m., an officer assigned to the downtown sector recognized a male in the 100 block of South Madison Street as similar to the suspect in the photo from the burglary. Officers contacted the male and detained him at that time. During the investigation, officers linked him to the burglary as he was wearing the same clothing as seen in the security photos including a distinct hoody and pants with a distinctive large hole in the pant leg. Ricco A. Gonzalez (29) was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree Commercial Burglary, 2nd Degree Theft from a building and 3rd Degree Malicious Mischief. Gonzalez was also booked on a felony warrant for controlled substance. Gonzalez is currently being held at the Spokane County Jail.
