On 3-13-24 at approximately 9:22am, an unknown male entered a business in the 2500 block of North Division and stole a jump starter box. The male suspect fled the store with several employees chasing him. The suspect produced a handgun as he was running. The male entered a red Dodge Charger with tinted windows and was driven away by another subject. SPD responded to the scene and spoke with the victim employees. The business provided security photos of the suspect. A short time later, SPD located a vehicle matching the description from the robbery and stopped it in the area of Normandie and Buckeye.

Officers contacted the driver and after an investigation, developed probable cause to arrest him for the robbery. Matthew A. Roberts (39) was booked into the Spokane County Jail for 1st Degree Robbery. The associated vehicle was seized for a search warrant and the jump starter was recovered. The male who displayed the handgun during the robbery is still outstanding. The suspect is described as a white male in his 40’s, about 6 feet tall with a medium build and last seen wearing a tan jacket, ball cap, hoodie and blue jeans.

If you see this suspect, please call 911 but do not approach him. Information is that he is armed with a handgun. You can also contact the SPD Tip Line at 509 242-TIPS (8477) or email SPDtipline@spokanepolice.org. Reference 2024-20047025
