On Friday May 3rd 2024, Spokane Police detectives along with members of SWAT and Hostage Negotiators (HNT) conducted several search warrants at a high crime location in the 900 block of East Indiana Avenue. The location has generated over 60 calls for service since January 1st of this year. The primary search warrant was in regard to a drug issue at an apartment where a 15-month-old child was living. Officers made contact with the residents and several adults were detained. The child was placed with Child Protective Services (CPS) due to safety concerns.

SPD then conducted another search warrant at the same location to facilitate the arrest of a sex offender who had failed to register. The male surrendered shortly after officers made verbal requests that he exit his apartment. At the completion of the incident, the following suspects were taken into custody:

  • Zachariah M. Campbell (29) for a Malicious Mischief and possessing Burglar Tools warrant.
  • James P. Hickman (35) for Violation of a Protection Order.
  • Gary D. Salchenberg (60) for Failing to Register as a Sex Offender.

All suspects were booked into the Spokane County Jail. The Spokane Police Department is actively working to curtail the on-going nuisance calls at this location.
