SPD quickly locates suspect involved in South-Hill shooting

On 5-8-24 at 1:23 p.m., Spokane Police officers responded to the area of 2900 S Ray Street on the report of a shooting. 911 received a call from a victim advising they had been shot in the head. Additional 911 calls were made by witnesses after the shooting took place. Officers provided aid to the victim until medics arrived. The victim’s vehicle had the driver’s side window shot out. A suspect vehicle description was provided to responding officers.

12 minutes after the initial 911 call, a vehicle matching the description provided by the victim and witnesses was observed in the area of Indiana and Hamilton.

Responding officers contacted the vehicle after it came to a stop and several occupants were detained. After interviewing witnesses, one of the occupants was placed under arrest for the shooting. It was determined that a pellet/BB gun was used during the shooting. The incident appears to a “road rage” event. Alexander I. Nayes (30) was placed under arrest for 2nd Degree Assault and booked into the Spokane County Jail. The suspect vehicle was seized as evidence in the crime.

The male victim was treated for minor injuries at the scene.
