SPD arrests a suspect in a shooting in the Garland district which took the life of one person

On 5-23-24, at around 5:30am, Spokane Police responded to multiple reports of a shooting in the Garland District. Officers arrived within minutes to the intersection of Garland and Wall and located a male victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite life saving efforts by officers, fire, and AMR, the male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The suspect was still on scene when officers arrived and was quickly detained by police. SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded and began an investigation. Detectives were able to obtain video evidence that showed a driving interaction between the suspect and the victim beginning at least a block from the shooting scene.

Detectives developed probable cause to charge Caleb N. Carder (28) with 2nd Degree Murder. He was booked into the Spokane County Jail. This is an ongoing investigation, more information will be released as warranted.

Garland Ave. between Howard and Post was closed down until early afternoon.

The name of the victim will be released at a later date by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
