SPD investigating fatal hit & run collision in Downtown Spokane

On June 19th, 2024 members of SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and the Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF) took Gary F. Burns (42) into custody for Vehicle Hit and Run – Death, in regard to a fatal auto/pedestrian collision that occurred on June 11th in Downtown Spokane.  Traffic investigators assigned to MCU worked tirelessly over the past week to identify the vehicle and driver associated with this incident.  Officers located Burns at a residence in the Spokane Valley.  Burns is currently being held at the Spokane County Jail.

On June 11th, 2024 at 12:49pm SPD responded to the area of Browne and Main in Downtown Spokane on a report of a vehicle versus a pedestrian collision.  911 was advised a female was down in the roadway and did not appear to be conscious.  Officers were on scene within two minutes of the call.  Medics arrived shortly after and the victim female was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  Despite efforts to save her life, the female succumbed to her injuries.

Officers with the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the location to assist patrol officers.  The involved vehicle has not been located as of yet.  If you have any information about this incident, please contact Crime Check at 509 456-2233.
