Police arrest suspect in late night shooting in Riverfront Park

On 6/25/24, just before midnight, Spokane Police responded to multiple calls of shots fired in Riverfront Park. Patrol officers arrived to find a group of young people who relayed they were walking north bound on the Howard St. bridge, just west of the clock tower pathway, when another group of young people on scooters approached them and started up a conversation. Officers learned that a male on one scooter said he had a gun, pulled it out and started firing at the group. Fortunately, none of the victims were hit but expressed they feared for their lives. Officers recovered multiple shell casings on the bridge and quickly located a male fitting the description of the shooter outside the park at Sprague and Lincoln. A weapon was found on the suspect.

Officers developed probable cause to arrest Dominick J. Kirk Atchinson (25) for 5 counts of 1st Degree Assault. Atchinson was arrested on the charges and booked into the Spokane County Jail. He is scheduled for a first court appearance this afternoon.
