SPD investigates 2 drive-by shootings Sunday

On Sunday, 7/21/24, shortly before midnight,  SPD patrol responded to a call of a drive-by shooting in the area of 2900 N. Stone St. Several callers reported hearing numerous shots fired with several vehicles quickly leaving the scene. Responding officers recovered shell casings in the roadway, but did not locate anything that was struck by gunfire or any victims. Shortly after midnight on Monday 7/22/24, a male arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound. Officers responded to the hospital and learned 3 people brought the male to the emergency room. Interviews with several of them revealed the male who was shot and the 3 others were in a car hanging out when a male approached them, fired several shots at their vehicle and took off. A bullet also hit the bottom of one person’s shoe. Officers located bullet holes in the vehicle the group drove in to the hospital. The group relayed they did not know the gunman. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

On Sunday morning 7/21/24 - just before 5am, SPD patrol responded to another shooting, this one in the 900 block of E. Rich Ave. A caller reported a vehicle was driving down the street when they heard gunshots coming from the vehicle. Officers arrived on the scene and located shell casings. A canvas of the area was conducted but officers were unable to find any homes, cars, or persons who were struck.
