On July 30th, 2024 at 5:17pm Spokane Police responded to the area of 5100 N Crestline on a report of a shooting.  911 was advised that a male had fired a shotgun at another subject before leaving the area in a vehicle.  911 received multiple calls in regard to the incident as officers quickly responded.  A female was contacted by law enforcement and she advised that a male had fired a shotgun at her.  She was able to duck as the suspect fired in her direction.  The suspect then drove away.

Information provided to on scene officers was very limited as to the reason for the shooting, but the name of the suspect was provided as well as vehicle information.  A spent shotgun shell was observed in the roadway where the shooting took place.  SPD was advised by a nearby home owner that their residence was struck by gunfire.  Officers checked the home and found evidence of that as well as damage inside the home.  Nobody inside the house was injured.

SPD identified the owner of the vehicle and located the vehicle in the area of 4500 E Frederick Ave just after 6pm.  Due to safety concerns, officers surrounded the residence and multiple specialty units to include SWAT, the Violent Crimes Task Force (VCTF), Hostage Negotiators (HNT) and the SPD Air Support Unit responded to assist as information indicated the suspect was at the residence.

HNT spent several hours trying to establish contact with the suspect, but was unsuccessful.  Officers contacted multiple people at the location to try and find additional information to contact the suspect male, but again were unsuccessful.  Communication efforts continued with officers using PA systems to attempt contact.  At just before 1am, the suspect was contacted on the property and taken into custody without issue.

Randall S. Bushell (58) was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail on the following charges:

  • 5 counts of 1st Degree Assault
  • Drive By Shooting
  • 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Firearm

Bushell has extensive criminal history with a prior felony conviction for Possession of a Controlled Substance.
