On 8/8/24 around 12:15, SPD responded to a call of a shooting in the area of N. Monroe St and W. Mansfield Ave. Upon arrival officers located a male outside a truck in the parking lot of a gas station who had been shot. Officers administered medical care until medics arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. Responding officers began interviewing witnesses in the area extending to the 1000 block of W. Mansfield and closed down streets around the crime scene. Officers were able to obtain a suspect vehicle description and possible suspect identification.
A short time later, officers responded to the area of S Freya St and W 15th Ave in response to information related to the shooting. Because of the nature of the incident SPD specialty units including SIU (Special Investigative Unit), VCTF (Violent Crimes Task Force), and Major Crimes were called in to assist in the investigation. Later in the day, police learned the suspect may be at a location in the 2000 block of N. Washington. SWAT, Hostage Negotiators and drones were activated to safely remove the suspect. Multiple people were detained over a several hour callout, however the primary suspect was not located.
