Officer Daniel Strassenberg Public Information Office

Monday, August 19, 2024 at 10:17 a.m.

On August 16th, 2024 at 11:34pm, SPD responded to the area of Division and Lincoln Road on a report of a vehicle vs pedestrian collision.  911 was advised a subject was struck by a pickup and the subject was down in the road, not conscious.  Medics responded and began life saving measures for the injured pedestrian.  Due to the seriousness of the injuries, officers shut down the roads around the intersection.  Despite life saving measures, the pedestrian died at the scene.  It was also discovered that a dog that was walking with the deceased male also died during the collision.

Officers interviewed the involved driver and impairment does not appear to be a factor in the collision.  The driver advised they were travelling southbound on Division approaching Lincoln Road when they observed a vehicle travelling northbound, swerve.  The involved driver then observed a male in the roadway in front of his vehicle and was not able to avoid the male.

Investigators with the SPD’s Major Crimes Unit (MCU) responded to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The name of the deceased will be released at a later time by the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
