On December 1st, 2025 at 3:17am, Spokane Police Officers responded to an apartment near Pacific and Division on a report of a shooting. Upon entering the residence, officers discovered a male with a gunshot wound. Officers immediately began life saving measures pending the arrival of medics. The victim was then quickly transported to a local hospital. Despite the life saving efforts provided, the victim would succumb to his injuries a short time later.
Officers contacted several witnesses at the location. With the information obtained from the witnesses and other evidence collected at the scene, officers learned the identity of the suspect as he had fled the scene prior to officers arriving. Detectives with the SPD Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and Special Investigations Unit (SIU) took over the investigation and subsequent search for the murder suspect.
In the evening hours of December 1st, SPD received information that the suspect was possibly in an apartment in the 500 block of West Sprague Avenue. Officers responded to the location and after obtaining a search warrant, entered the apartment and took the suspect into custody without issue. Randy R. Chaparro (33) was arrested and booked into the Spokane County Jail for 2nd Degree Murder as well as for a felony warrant issued by the Department of Corrections for probation violations.
