On January 8th, 2026 at just before noon, SPD responded to a residence in the 2300 block of East Longfellow to serve a Domestic Violence Court Order. The male to be served with the order was 32-year-old Curtis Charles David Taylor. The order also indicated that several minor children were listed as protected parties and they were reportedly in the home with Taylor. Officers were also made aware that firearms were possibly inside the residence and that family had been attempting to remove them since last May.
Officers would make verbal contact at the front door, advising Taylor of the court order and that the children needed to be turned over to law enforcement. Taylor refused, saying his children were not going anywhere. He would eventually open the front door, yelling at officers to leave the property. He would take an aggressive stance at the door while saying that he was not going to jail and that officers would have to shoot him. Taylor was advised at that time that he was under arrest. Taylor would scream at officers that he was not going to jail.
Taylor would leave the doorway, heading towards the area where the children were believed to be. Based on his statements and criminal non-compliance with the order he was just served with, officers made exigent entry into the home. Taylor was detained and taken into custody after resisting the arrest process. The children were found in a bathroom, safe and unharmed. The children would be safely returned to family. Based on the information about firearms in the home and the served court order, officers applied for and were granted a search warrant for the residence.
A search of the home would result in locating a total of 6 firearms and ammunition. One of the guns recovered was listed as stolen. Taylor was booked into the Spokane County Jail on the following charges:
