On January 24, Spokane Police were contacted reference a disturbing phone video depicting an assault of at that time, an unknown victim. As the investigation began, officers did not know the identity of the victim in the video. A dedicated effort led officers to discovering the name of the male victim in the video.
The video in short shows the victim being restrained in a chair as he is being assaulted to include being threatened with firearms. As the video evidence was examined, investigators believe the assault took place on or before January 22. Additional investigation led detectives to an apartment in north Spokane. The crime appeared to be a pre-planned event as the victim was lured to this location.
A total of five suspects were taken into custody, all were minors. Three of the five suspects had their cases remanded to Spokane Superior Court with the other two remaining in Juvenile Superior Court. The charges range from 1st Degree Kidnapping (Firearm enhancement), 2nd Degree Assault and Robbery.
The age ranges of the suspects were 15-17. The investigation into the incident involved multiple units within SPD and helped bring about a fast identification of not only the victim, but of the five suspects as well.
