On February 18, 2026 around 4 p.m., Spokane Police responded to the area of W. Maxwell Ave and N. Howard St for a reported Drive-by shooting. One caller advised they observed a male shoot a handgun from a black pickup truck. As officers began to flood the area, 911 received additional calls reporting a male displaying a firearm in an alarming manner at various locations in west Spokane, with one location given as Ash and Maxwell.

Officers located the truck a short time later in the downtown area and attempted to stop it once it was safe to do so. The male refused to cooperate and fled. Due to the extreme safety concerns to the public, officers initiated a brief pursuit.

Spokane Regional Air Support Unit (SRASU) responded to assist SPD. For the safety of the public, officers backed away from the suspect as SRASU continued to monitor. As the suspect continued to drive erratically, he crashed into a SPD patrol vehicle in the area of Whistalks and Government Way. The suspect continued driving recklessly before crashing his vehicle a short distance away. SRASU kept visual contact of the suspect vehicle during this time prior to the final collision location. Officers quickly detained him after he fled on foot from his vehicle.

The male was identified as Carl W. Lindsey (48). Lindsey was arrested and booked into Spokane County Jail, where he remains, for the crimes of Attempt to Elude, Felony Hit and Run and Resisting Arrest.

Officers seized Lindsey’s vehicle pending a search warrant and additional charges may be forthcoming.
