Master Bike Plan Comprehensive Plan Amendment (2015)

Background

Council Member Jon Snyder in collaboration with members of the community has been working to add bicycle facilities to the Master Bike Plan in the Transportation Chapter of the City's Comprehensive Plan. The amendment affects changes to both text in Chapter 4, which is the Transportation Chapter, and to Map TR 2, the Planned Bikeway Network Map. These changes may be independent of the broader transportation chapter update underway as part of the Link Spokane project. That ongoing process includes additional facilities for the Planned Bikeway Network, some of which were identified in or modified from recently adopted neighborhood plans.

What's Happening Now

Spokane City Council will hold a public hearing during the City Council Legislative Session, starting at 6:00 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2015, in the City Council Chambers, Lower Level City Hall, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd. The Plan Commission held a public hearing and recommended approval of the proposal on February 25, 2015.

The End Result

The ordinance would enact the following changes:

  • Add a number of previously constructed bicycle facilities to the Planned Bikeway Network map
  • Add a number of facilities which will be constructed soon
  • Provide text changes to describe a new Neighborhood Greenway classification, a bike share feasibility study, and discuss specific projects, such as the Centennial Trail crossing of East Mission Avenue near Mission Park
