Neighborhood Retail Parking Standards Update

Background

There are 72 small commercial areas within the city, most with historic roots as local community or “streetcar” business locations that are zoned Neighborhood Retail (NR). Currently, these areas are required to follow the same parking standards that other commercially zoned properties are required to follow. This proposal would eliminate parking requirements for any existing building, new building, or addition with a floor area less than 3,000 square feet and reduce them for buildings up to 5,000 square feet. Reduced parking standards aim at balancing the need for parking while encouraging revitalization of small scale, neighborhood serving businesses.
