City Council Member, District 2
Term: November 2025 – December 2029
ktelis@spokanecity.org
Kate Telis is proud to call District 2 home. She lives on Spokane’s South Hill with her husband, Alex, where they are raising their two children in the community they love. You’ll often find Kate biking through her neighborhood, riding with her family on Beacon Hill, or connecting with neighbors at local events. She believes Spokane is a place worth investing in – and fighting for.
Kate’s professional background is grounded in public service, accountability, and community leadership. She began her legal career as a law clerk for a judge in Northern Virginia, where she gained firsthand insight into how the justice system operates and the importance of fair, thoughtful decision-making. She later served as a prosecutor in New Mexico, handling felony domestic violence cases and working closely with survivors to ensure they had both protection and a voice in the justice system. That experience shaped her belief that public safety must prioritize prevention, accountability, and compassion.
She later served as Development Director for Cuidando Los Niños, a nonprofit supporting families experiencing homelessness, where she led fundraising and strategic initiatives to expand services for children and families working toward stability. Kate has also worked as a legal consultant on civil rights and complex litigation matters, deepening her understanding of how policy decisions affect real people’s lives.
Since moving to Spokane, Kate has been deeply engaged in her community. She has held leadership roles with Moms Demand Action and served on the Hutton Elementary Parent-Teacher Group board, while supporting local efforts focused on responsible growth, strong public schools, and safe neighborhoods.
On City Council, Kate focuses on practical, data-driven solutions that strengthen crisis response, expand affordable housing, invest in infrastructure, and protect Spokane’s drinking water. She is honored to serve District 2 and remains committed to building a city that is safer, more affordable, and full of opportunity for every family.
