Minutes before 1:30 AM on Sunday morning, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) responded to a structure fire in the Garry Park neighborhood.

First-arriving companies found a single-story residence with heavy fire showing from the front door and living room window (photo) and reports of several occupants potentially still inside.

Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire, with companies simultaneously performing ventilation operations and searching for victims under heavy smoke conditions.

The fire was brought under control quickly and contained to the building of origin. One civilian occupant sustained a minor injury and was treated by SFD Paramedics and then transported to a local hospital for definitive treatment. There were no injuries to SFD personnel as a result of this event.

Eight people were displaced and are staying with family in the area. The cause of the fire is under active investigation by the SFD's Investigation Unit.
