On Thursday, May 26, 2022, at approximately 02:00 AM, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) along with units from Spokane County Fire District 9 were dispatched to the 6900 Block of North Douglass Street to a reported house on fire, involving the deck possibly spreading into the home. Despite an active second alarm commercial structure fire occurring nearby in the City, the first company arrived within minutes of dispatch.
Upon arrival, firefighters reported fire consuming the deck on the back of the structure and immediately upgraded the incident to a working fire. Crews entered the single-family residence to conduct a full search of the structure for possible victims. The search was all clear. Further investigation found no fire inside on the first or second floors of the home, however fire was discovered in the attic. Simultaneously, companies outside battled the exterior fire, ventilated the roof, and subsequently attacked the fire in the attic. Both were knocked down within six minutes of arrival.
There were no reported injuries to firefighters or civilians. The cause of this early morning incident remains under active investigation by the Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit.
