On Thursday, May 26, 2022, at approximately 02:20 am, crews from the Spokane Fire Department along with Fire District 9 responded to a reported fire at the old northside Lowes building on the 6900 block of North Division.  Crews arrived minutes after the call to 911 and found security workers onsite who advised there was a fire in the building with no other details.

Firefighters did a quick check inside to find smoke in the building with reports of a fire from one of the security guards. The fire was quickly upgraded to a working commercial structure fire with the addition of a second alarm.  Crews made a rapid attack on the fire with heavy hose streams and conducted a search of the entire building to make sure everyone was safely out of the structure. The majority of the fire was contained within a half an hour and the fire was overhauled and considered out at 60 minutes.

One security guard was treated for smoke inhalation.  There were no other injuries to civilians or firefighters.  The cause of this early morning incident remains under active investigation by the Spokane Fire Department's Special Investigation Unit.
