Just before midnight on March 3, Spokane Fire Department units responded to a reported structure fire at 1020 E 39th Ave. First-arriving units reported heavy smoke showing from a single family residence. Companies initiated an interior attack in conjunction with vertical ventilation and search operations. During the search an adult female was located and removed, a quick medical evaluation found her to be in cardiac arrest. The fire victim was resuscitated by SFD firefighter/paramedics and transported by AMR to Sacred Heart Medical Center.
There were no other injuries to civilians or firefighters.
Cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and continues to be under investigation by the SFD special investigations unit.
The home suffered significant fire and smoke damage.
