At approximately 2:58 PM on Monday, March 21st, 2023, the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) received a report of smoke emanating from a house in the 2900 block of North Atlantic Street. SFD units were promptly dispatched to the scene and arrived within minutes of the initial call.

Upon arrival, fire companies observed smoke billowing from the front door of the residence. SFD firefighters immediately conducted a thorough search of the house to locate the fire and any potential occupants. Concurrently, crews stretched hose lines to control the fire and began ventilation efforts to release heat and fire gasses from the structure.

The fire was successfully contained and controlled quickly, with the damage limited to the area of origin. There were no reported injuries to civilians or firefighters during the incident. Unfortunately, two family pets were found deceased inside the home.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the SFD Special Investigation Unit (SIU).

The Spokane Fire Department would like to remind the community about the importance of smoke detectors and to have a fire escape plan in place for all members of the household, including pets. Regular maintenance and testing of smoke detectors can save lives and prevent tragedies.
