Spokane City Councilman Mike Fagan, District 1 kicks off the 2015 season of Council Connection on Thursday at 6 p.m. on CityCable 5. During the live broadcast, Fagan plans to highlight the Spokane Fire Department CARES (Community Assistance Response) Team and the Spokane Christian Service Team.

The CARES Team is a program within the Spokane Fire Department that is in place to interact with citizens who have received a response from fire personnel and are identified as needing social service or other support system assistance. In most cases, responders find these people feeling isolated or in some type of crisis – and not knowing where to turn for help. These citizens generate many 911 calls for assistance.

The other group that Fagan will feature is the Spokane Christian Service Team, which is focused on projects and opportunities for churches to minister in the community. The projects are based on goals set by the health district, schools, police and others who know the issues.

“Using best practices within the faith community will bring about real community transformation,” said Fagan. “It is important for all of us to work together for the common good and strive to improve quality of life for at-risk youth, enhance neighborhood safety and emergency preparedness, eradicate homelessness, increase housing opportunities and economic development and eliminate health and wellness inequalities.”

Council Member Fagan will accept calls from viewers during the program. The phone number to reach the show is 509.625.6337.
