Curbside garbage, recycling, and yard waste pickup today in the City of Spokane met up with a few challenges. Some streets were impassable for collection trucks, and some customers were unable to get their carts to the curb on time.

The City’s Solid Waste Collection Department is recommending the following for those whose carts were not emptied today:

  • If your cart was out on time and the trucks didn’t make it down your street, simply put your cart out on Thursday, Nov. 19, for collection. Drivers have noted areas they were unable to access.
  • If you didn’t get your cart to the curb on time, call Solid Waste Collection at 625.7878 to tell them, and then put your cart out on the curb on Thursday morning. The crews will attempt to pick up at all these locations.

“The Solid Waste Department is committed to providing safe and reliable collection service to our citizens in many weather conditions,” says Scott Windsor, the department’s director. “We apologize for any inconvenience.”

Here are some additional curbside collection tips:

  • If you have spoiled food, you can put that food waste, without packaging, in the green yard waste carts. Regular garbage carts also can be used for those items.
  • The green yard waste cart also can be used to dispose of smaller yard and tree waste. Branches must be no larger than 3 inches in diameter. Yard waste collection is being extended until Dec. 18 to help residents with their storm cleanup.

If you have additional questions about your curbside services, call Solid Waste Collection at 509.625.7878. Additional information on free disposal sites for larger tree and yard storm debris is found here.
