New City Councilmember Breean Beggs will be sworn in Friday afternoon at City Hall.

“I am excited to be a voice for all people in the City of Spokane so that they each have a chance to realize their Spokane dream,” said Beggs.

Beggs will serve the District 2 City Council seat left vacant by Councilmember Jon Snyder. Snyder stepped down in January to accept an appointment as Governor Inslee’s Policy Advisor for Outdoor Recreation and Economic Development.

After narrowing down the pool of applicants for the position, The City Council selected Beggs in a 5-1 vote Monday to fill the vacant seat.

“Breean Beggs is a reformer with experience in the community pushing the City forward on many different issues,” said Council President Ben Stuckart. “The citizens of District 2 are getting a dedicated public servant ready to lead. We’re excited to have Breean on the team.”

Retired Judge Philip Thompson will preside over the swearing-in ceremony Friday at 3:30 p.m. in Council Chambers.
