City Parking Enforcement is reminding drivers not to park in areas designated as taxicab stands ahead of citations being issued.
Through June 5, Parking Enforcement will be issuing courtesy reminders instead of citations to elevate awareness and give drivers time to adjust to the hefty fine. Beginning June 6, parking in a taxicab stand will result in a fine of $250, which was increased by the City Council in 2015 amid rising concerns from local taxi companies about non-taxi vehicles taking up spaces marked for cabs. The previous fine amount was $30.
The $250.00 fine is in accordance with SMC 08.02.083E(1)(e). Parking any vehicle other than a taxi in a taxi stall is prohibited according to SMC 16A.61.5705B.
