The City of Spokane’s business registration amnesty program has come to a close.

There are an estimated 20,000 businesses operating within the city. These businesses are required to register annually with city’s Tax and Licensing Department. Businesses that are not registered can face a fine up to $536 per day.

“The City of Spokane requires all businesses located within the city or that conduct business within the city to be licensed,” said Margaret Redd, taxes and licenses specialist for the city. “Businesses that are not registered will now be subject to civil infraction penalties.

During the amnesty program 542 new businesses registered and the number of delinquent businesses shrunk to 2,367.

Business owners can register their business by mail or online here. Businesses are also required to obtain a business license through the state.
