The City of Spokane is seeking applications from non-profit organizations for grant funding to support programs and events that honor and celebrate the rich diversity of the City’s cultural communities

The City has allocated $40,000 for the grants and will consider proposals for services or events that will take place in the city between September 1, 2019, and Aug. 31, 2020. Applications must be received by Friday, Aug. 16, at 5 p.m. Email them to Gloria Ochoa-Bruck, Multi-Cultural Affairs Director, at gochoabruck@spokanecity.org or deliver them by hand or mail to Spokane City Hall, Office of the Mayor, 808 W. Spokane Falls Blvd, Spokane, WA 99201.

Funds will be awarded after a competitive review by a panel including City elected officials and members of the Mayor’s Advisory Council on Multi-Cultural Affairs (MACMA). The fundamental requirement for all proposals is that they represent a cultural activity of recognized quality that is free and accessible to the public. Funded services can be as different as the organizations providing them, but they will all have a common commitment to public service and public participation.

The following are examples of the kinds of services that will be considered for funding; however this list by no means represents the entire range of possibilities:

  • Cultural festivals and celebrations;
  • Arts fairs;
  • Programs for culturally underrepresented populations;
  • Lectures, demonstrations and workshops with a cultural focus.
