Spokane Mayor David Condon has ordered flags at all City of Spokane facilities to be lowered to half-staff in remembrance of Perry “Mike” Taylor, Program Manager of the Riverside Park Water Reclamation Facility’s Next Level of Treatment Program.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Mike Taylor,” said Mayor Condon. “Mike will be remembered for his dedication to his friends, to his mother who lived well into her 90s, to his kids and grandkids, and to his wife. He was always a good listener for colleagues at the City, and he truly believed in servant leadership. We send our deepest condolences to Mike’s family, friends, colleagues, and students.”

Mike was a proud Army veteran serving as a captain and company commander in the Corps of Engineers during the Vietnam War where he was a decorated officer. In 1985, he founded Taylor Engineering, a consulting firm whose impact can be seen throughout our region. After retiring from Taylor Engineering, he joined the City of Spokane in 2009 as Director of Engineering Services and City Engineer. At the time of his death, Mike was the NLT Program Manager and an adjunct professor at Gonzaga University’s School of Engineering & Applied Science.

On Sunday, Sept. 1, Mike Taylor unexpectedly passed away from a heart attack following a surgery at Sacred Heart Medical Center. A memorial service honoring him is set for Thursday, Sept. 12, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the SEAS Excellence Fund at Gonzaga University or the Christopher Lloyd Taylor Scholarship at Eastern Washington University.
