TJ Meenach Dr. will be closed beginning, Monday, Mar. 13 between Northwest Blvd. and Pettet Dr. on the north end of the TJ Meenach Bridge for the TJ Meenach Street, Siphon, and Stormwater improvements project. It is the final stage of the City’s Cochran Basin Stormwater Management Facilities plan to help protect the Spokane River. The street closure is expected to last for approximately five months with the project estimated to be completed in August 2023.

The TJ Meenach Bridge will remain open and accessible. Traffic will be rerouted at the Pettet Dr. interchange and detoured via Pettet Dr., Maxwell Ave. and the Maple/Ash corridor. There will be short term closures when a sewer pipe needs to be installed under the Downriver Dr. and TJ Meenach Bridge southbound access ramp.

The project includes constructing stormwater and sanitary sewer improvements in coordination with reconstructing the north section of TJ Meenach Dr.

The Cochran Basin in northwest Spokane is a collection point for stormwater runoff that comes from areas as far away as Market St. and Francis. It is the largest in the city at over 5,000 acres in size and consists of residential, commercial, and light industrial uses. Pollutants like motor fluids, landscape chemicals, sediment, and other things make their way to this collection point before entering the Spokane River.

Construction is also underway for the Cochran Basin Treatment Facilities – Downriver Disc Golf Course and Downriver Park project improving recreational amenities such as a new Disc Golf course, river access, and increased parking starting this summer.
