In observance of the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, July 4, City Hall will be closed along with other City facilities, including the Waste-to-Energy facility. Garbage, recycling, and yard waste services will be a day late after the Fourth of July holiday, with normal Friday services planned for Saturday.

Here are some additional Independence Day closures and cancellations:

  • On-street paid parking meters and kiosks will not require payments but remember even when parking is free on holidays, all parking rules, including time limits, still apply.
  • All Spokane Public Library locations will be closed.
  • The Spokane Municipal Court and Community Justice Services will be closed.
  • My Spokane 311 employees will not be available for in-person, phone, or online customer service inquiries. The public can go to www.Spokane311.org 24 hours a day to submit a request.
  • Development Services Center employees will not be available.
  • The City’s six aquatic centers will be closed.
  • Spokane City Council meetings will resume on Monday, July 8, with a 3:30 p.m. briefing session and a 6 p.m. legislative session. Meetings are shown live on CityCable 5, the City’s government-access cable station, and are streamed on Facebook and the web at spokanecity.org.

Meanwhile, many activities are planned for the holiday. Riverfront Park will host the ICCU Summer Carnival from Wednesday, July 3 through Sunday, July 7. The thrilling five-day event promises to deliver loads of fun and excitement. The grand finale of the ICCU Summer Carnival is the ICCU 4th of July Celebration & EXPO 50th Closing Ceremonies featuring a free concert and a spectacular firework show.

Splash pads and golf courses also are open. For splash pad information go to the aquatics information on the web. For golf course information visit www.spokanegolf.org.

The City of Spokane Fire Department reminds everyone that the sale and use of all amateur (consumer) fireworks is illegal in the cities of Spokane, Spokane Valley, Cheney, Millwood, Liberty Lake, and the unincorporated areas of Spokane County. Firework fines are $536 for each infraction. Remember that if it lights it’s illegal, this applies to sparklers too. Residents can report violations by calling Crime Check at 509-456-2233.

Residents can dispose of unwanted fireworks in the household hazardous waste area at the Waste-to-Energy Facility. There is no disposal cost.
