Impacts For Final Stretch of Construction Season

City of Spokane continues work to preserve the decks of four bridges and begins a grind and overlay project on Washington Street. Drivers are urged to plan ahead, allow for extra time, and be alert for frequent traffic changes. Please slow down for everyone’s safety and make extra effort to support businesses impacted by the necessary projects. Greene Street Bridge Deck Resurfacing – Carlisle Avenue to Ermina Avenue

Beginning, Monday, Sept. 21 crews will return to resurface the northbound lanes of the Greene Street Bridge spanning across the Spokane River. The project includes replacing deteriorating concrete and repairing or replacing deck joints. This second phase requires northbound Greene Street to be closed with a detour in place and southbound reduced to one lane of traffic. The northbound work is expected to be completed approximately November 15.

What to expect:

  • Northbound Greene Street will be CLOSED and traffic will be detoured at Mission Avenue and directed west to Division Street to continue northbound. Drivers are urged to use an alternate northbound route.
  • Southbound Greene Street will be reduced to one lane between Carlisle Avenue and Mission Avenue. Drivers should expect significant slowdowns.
  • Local access on Greene Street will be maintained between Carlisle Avenue and Ermina Avenue.

Havana Street Bridge Deck Overlay – Carlisle Avenue to Ermina Avenue

Crews will begin work to preserve the deck of the Havana Street Bridge Monday, Sept. 21 allowing traffic to travel over railroad tracks. The project includes installing a polyester concrete overlay and repairing deck joints. The work is expected to be completed approximately Oct. 16.

What to expect:

  • Havana Street will be CLOSED between Broadway Avenue and Mission Avenue.
  • Northbound drivers will be detoured at Broadway Avenue, east to Fancher Road or west to Greene Street.
  • Southbound drivers will be detoured at Mission Avenue, west to Greene Street or east to Fancher Road.

S. Washington Street – between 8th Avenue and 3rd Avenue

Beginning, Monday, Sept. 21 a private project will require Washington Street to be closed between Sumner Avenue and 7th Avenue. On Tuesday, Sept. 22, crews will begin a grind and overlay project on Washington Street between 8th Avenue and 3rd Avenue. Work includes curb ramp replacements for ADA accessibility, stormwater system upgrades, and replacement of a water system distribution main. The project has an accelerated construction schedule and is expected to be completed by the end of October.

What to expect:

  • Washington Street will be CLOSED between Sumner Avenue and 7th Avenue on Monday, Sept. 21.
  • Curb lanes of Washington Street will be CLOSED on Washington between 8th Avenue and 6th Avenue.
  • 8th Avenue will be CLOSED between McClellan Street and Washington Street. Traffic will be detoured at McClellan to Division Street.
  • Drivers will experience significant slowdowns near medical facilities and Lewis & Clark High School.
  • Local access will be maintained for businesses.
