Join the Spokane Fire Department in celebrating local Emergency Medical Service (EMS) practitioners during the 40th annual EMS Week from May 18 to 24.
To kick off EMS Week and raise awareness about EMS, the Spokane Fire Department, in cooperation with AMR, flash mobbed the City Council meeting on Monday night. Fire personnel invited the audience to participate in a 5-minute, hands-only CPR training course.
On Wednesday, the Spokane Fire Department is taking part in World CPR Day. The World CPR Challenge is a day of free CPR training with the goal of teaching as many people as possible how to save lives using hands-only CPR. Hands-only CPR training will be conducted at 10 locations, including City Hall and River Park Square.
Events like this give us the opportunity to share the importance of EMS with community members while preparing them to provide medical assistance when fellow citizens are in need of care. EMS week was authorized by President Gerald Ford in 1973 to celebrate EMS practitioners and recognize the importance of their work in providing public safety. This week is a reminder and an opportunity for our community to say thank you to our local EMS providers. These individuals work every day to provide medical services to people in need and are integral to creating a safer Spokane.
