Deep in the heart of the industrial lands of the Yard, out beyond dusty Havana Street and the city limits, there is a… gymnastics studio? It may seem out of place, but a new 30 thousand-square foot gymnasium needs some space, and the urban growth area outside of the Yard has it.
The new studio belongs to Dynamic Gymnastics & Cheer, whose 600 students have outgrown their Division Street studio and were looking to upgrade. The new $1.8 million facility is not much to look at now (a plot of leveled dirt on the outskirts of town), but when completed this fall, the structure will contain a mezzanine, a warm-up floor, a trampoline, a workout facility, three dance/cheer studios, two spring floors and a partridge in a pear tree.
With the help of the developer, Solid Structures LLC, the facility was designed by 11-year owner Adana Harris. When the doors open, Dynamic Gymnastics hopes to employ 35 people and offer gymnastics, cheer and fitness classes to youth and adults – and give manufacturing workers a place to practice their Leapin' Lora cheers during their lunch breaks.
