Havana Street improvements are coming to Southgate neighborhood

Updated: 07-24-2015 at 3:45 p.m.

One of next year's major street projects is happening in the Southgate neighborhood, on South Havana Street. The improvements are part of a larger project to install a water main within the street which will continue south in Glenrose Road beyond the city limits.

The project improves Havana Street from 37th Avenue to Glenrose Road. The new water main continues in Glenrose Road from Havana Street to 57th Avenue. The project (#2014079) was included in the 2015-2020 Six-Year Comprehensive Street Program.

Workers will install the new 36-inch water main as well as remove and replace pavement with a thicker section of rock base and asphalt. There will be new curbs for the 32 foot-wide street, storm water facilities, additional sidewalk to fill in gaps, and bike lanes, among other improvements.

Take a look:

The project will be completed in phases starting in the spring of 2015. There will be closures but Havana and Glenrose will not be closed at the same time during construction.

With improvements planned for under and above ground, the work is expected to make the area safer and more connected.

Join us at weekly construction meetings to offer your feedback or to keep up to date about what’s happening with the project. The meetings are open to the public at Ben Burr Park from 9 to 10 a.m.
