As public servants we have an obligation to be good stewards of taxpayer dollars. From multi-million dollar public works projects to the office supplies that we use every day, we must always look for the most efficient, cost effective, and transparent way to provide services to all citizens of Spokane.
Likewise, the City must remain grateful for the state and Federal taxpayer dollars that we receive in the form of grants and loans. We have an obligation to execute these grants with transparency, fairness, and according to the rules established by the agency providing the dollars. That's why I sponsored the Audit Findings Transparency and Accountability ordinance. The ordinance does two things:
My hope is that this law will continue to increase transparency in local government, and provide a tool for taxpayers to hold all City officials accountable for how we spend tax dollars and execute state and Federal grants.
