Volunteer Opportunity - October 15th is Reforest Spokane Day with the City of Spokane, The Lands Council and Avista. Help plant over 2,000 native trees, shrubs and grasses as part of the Spokane River Gorge Project.

Join us on October 15 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. when hundreds of volunteers to plant trees along the Spokane River as part of the Spokane River Gorge Project. This year the City of Spokane is partnering with The Lands Council for their annual Reforest Spokane Day. As part of this event Avista Utilities is another major sponsor and will be providing free hats for all volunteers.

Trees are extremely important to the City of Spokane and Reforest Spokane Day is a great opportunity for the community to show their support of trees the Spokane River by volunteering for this great event. Every year, thousands of trees are planted with the help of outstanding volunteers and a community that works together to preserve and protect the city of Spokane.

The benefits from trees include;

  • Creating oxygen
  • Decreasing traffic noise
  • Supplying shade
  • Increasing visual appeal
  • Providing a habitat for wildlife
  • Creating a cleaner watersheds through storm water absorption

The trees will be planted on the south side of the Sandifur Bridge in the West Central Neighborhood. There will be snacks and coffee when volunteers start signing in at 9 a.m. Bring your own shovel, working gloves and water bottle. Please wear sturdy shoes and weather appropriate clothing.
