Today Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) opened a roundabout at the intersection of Wellesley Avenue and Freya Street. The roundabout is part of the larger North South Corridor project.
Mike Gribner WSDOT’s acting Regional Administrator, Senator Michael Baumgartner from District 6, Senator Andy Billig from District 3, Spokane Mayor David Condon, Councilwoman Amber Waldref, and Councilman Mike Fagan were all in attendance to celebrate.
Speaking about the project Mayor Condon said, “The collaboration between the infrastructure of our utility work and that of our street is an example of our integrated planning across the city.”
In preparation for WSDOT’s construction the City of Spokane improved utilities including the replacement and relocation of sewer and water infrastructure. Following the city’s utility work WSDOT was able to construct a fantastic roundabout. This intersection was upgraded in preparation for the North South Corridor that will connect to Wellesley Avenue just west of Freya Street.
