City Has $2.5 Million in CDBG Funds Available

The City of Spokane’s Community, Housing and Human Services Department (CHHS) has $2,500,000.00 in Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds available! CHHS will be accepting applications until Friday, October 26 at 5 p.m. for a wide variety ofcapital projects including land acquisition, rehabilitation, affordable housing, and public facilities and improvements.

CDBG grant funding has helped facilitate numerous projects in low-and-moderate income neighborhoods throughout the City of Spokane. In 2015, Fresh Soul Restaurant received $150,000 in CDBG funding to renovate the old Flipper’s Ice Creamery building in the East Central Neighborhood. The restaurant employs high school students for a 16-week long internship and tutor program. Employees not only get job training, they gain necessary life skills that will help them throughout their life!

In 2019, the Jayne Auld Manor will open! This Spokane Housing Ventures project will house workforce families in a 38-unit, three story apartment building and five duplex buildings. This project is also a recipient of CDBG funding, $388,850 to be exact!

CHHS staff will hold two technical assistance workshops for you to come ask questions and receive help on your application. Staff have also set aside six separate dates in the morning and afternoon to provide technical assistance for interested applicants to discuss proposals.
