Commercial Parking Tax

Starting April 1, 2026, a tax is imposed for the act of parking in a commercial parking lot. Revenue from the commercial parking tax is used for transportation purposes only, including street construction and maintenance, street paving, sidewalk construction and maintenance, and other transportation improvements.

Tentative projects currently slated for funding:

  • 3rd Ave – Walnut St to Stevens St & Stevens – 3rd Ave to 8th Ave: Grind and Overlay (G&O)
  • Washington St – 3rd Ave to 8th Ave: G&O
  • Maple St/Walnut St – 5th Ave to Bridge: G&O
  • Spokane Falls Blvd: Design
  • Riverside Ave – Monroe St to Wall St: Design
  • Sprague Ave – Freya St to Havana St: G&O
  • Grand Blvd – 14th Ave to 29th Ave: G&O

Exemptions from the tax are provided to tax-exempt carpools, vehicles with a disabled parking placard, government vehicles, and vehicles parking in designated parking stalls for thirty-day periods where the person has exclusive use of the designated parking stalls

The commercial parking tax does not apply to the City of Spokane's on-street parking system.
