March 19, 2020

Dear golf community,

Over the past several days, we’ve worked diligently and quickly to create COVID-19-specific protocols that alter our operations in alignment with Governor Inslee’s emergency proclamation from March 16. These protocols were developed in partnership with Spokane County golf courses and follow recommendations from the CDC. Our primary focus continues to be the safety of our community, customers, and staff.

Golf Re-Opens Friday, March 20, 2020 with revised protocols

Downriver, The Creek at Qualchan, and Esmeralda are opening under these revised protocols on Friday, March 20. Indian Canyon remains closed for weather. Here are a few operational changes you can anticipate, in place to help slow the spread of COVID-19.

  • High-touched areas and clubhouse restrooms cleaned every two hours
  • Additional increased cleaning for all facilities and between cart rentals
  • Smaller groups and single riders in golf carts allowed
  • Tee times moved to 10 minute intervals to decrease congestion
  • A line will keep six feet between the check in counter and the next guest
  • Practice facility flags and bunker rakes will be removed, along with ball washing units and towels; green cups sanitized daily. Guests will be notified that flagsticks must remain in the hole.
  • A ‘gimme’ around the cup of a three foot circle to allow golfers to pick up (vs. put their hand in the cup to retrieve their ball) will be encouraged for non-officially scored play.
  • Range balls sanitized when retrieved, and baskets between every use. The driving range will have dividers at least 6 feet apart.
  • Food and beverage staff will wear gloves, and provide to-go orders only

Thank you for your role in supporting the health of our community.

When we re-open, we ask that participants please not attend golf facilities if you experience symptoms or have been in contact with someone experiencing symptoms; our staff will do the same.

Next steps

As the situation and information evolves, we will continue to follow the recommendations of the Spokane Regional Health District, Governor Inslee, and President Trump in collaboration with the City of Spokane leadership. The health of our community is number one, and we appreciate your support of golf while following CDC guidelines.
