SPOKANE – Join the celebration of the D.C. Corbin House’s 125th anniversary on Saturday, April 22. This historic structure is the current home of the Corbin Art Center.

The celebration includes artists’ demonstrations, kids’ craft activities, presentations about the house’s architecture and history, and tours of the adjacent Moore-Turner Heritage gardens (weather permitting).

The event is free, but space is limited so registration is required at www.SpokaneRec.org, using codes 13280 (10 a.m. - noon) or 13281 (1 – 3 p.m.). The historic home is located at 507 W. 7th Ave. on the south hill.

Additional commemoration activities are planned, including history and ghost tours running April 22 – June, and a 2-night lecture series in May. More information and registration are available at www.SpokaneRec.org, under Corbin Art Center / History and Haunts. In the fall, there will be additional tours and holiday festivities.

D.C. Corbin’s home was designed and built by acclaimed architect Kirtland K. Cutter. Corbin made his fortune primarily in the railroad and mining businesses, and during his lifetime gifted the City the land for what remains today as Corbin Park. Many years after Corbin’s death, his widow Anna sold the home to the Parks department in the 1940s.

The Corbin Art Center, a program of City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, has resided at the D.C. Corbin house for more than 50 years. The center provides affordable, quality fine arts and crafts programs for children and adults that foster cognitive, creative, and personal growth. Classes are small so participants receive maximum instructor attention.

Those interested in donating to the preservation of the D. C. Corbin House are asked to visit https://givebutter.com/CorbinArtCenter.
