Finch Arboretum Hosts Free Arbor Day Festivities Saturday

Event features family activities, live music, tree care and environmental education, free seedlings, and more

SPOKANE – Join the Arbor Day Celebration on Saturday, April 29, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. at the Finch Arboretum. A brief ceremony will be held at noon.

The event is sponsored by Bartlett Tree Experts. It is geared for all ages, but pets are not allowed at the Arboretum (services animals only). 

Highlights include:

  • Spokane County Master Composters/Recyclers will teach how to turn yard and food waste into "black gold" for your garden
  • Bartlett Tree Experts will give out tree seedlings and hold a tree climbing demonstration
  • Door prizes including a free tree donated by Blue Moon Garden and Nursery
  • Read for Trees hosted by the Spokane Library
  • Arts and crafts projects coordinated by Spokane Parks & Recreation’s Corbin Art Center
  • Live music by Rosie Cerquone
  • Food vendors Black Fire Kettlecorn and Gypsy Java
    • Free kettle corn to the first 165 people, and free coffee or hot cocoa to the first 100 people, thanks to Trailhead Tree Service
  • Ceremonial tree planting and demonstration (following the Tree City USA Ceremony), with the Susie Forest

The event marks Spokane's 20th year as a Tree City USA.

The John A. Finch Arboretum is Spokane's outdoor classroom for naturalists, horticulturists, and students of all ages. Located just off the Sunset Highway, the Arboretum occupies 65 acres of land along Garden Springs Creek, where thousands of trees and shrubs can be seen and studied.

Wander and play while admiring the natural beauty of the Inland Northwest and Spokane's urban forest canopy. The botanical collections of the arboretum display over 2,000 trees and shrubs representing over 600 species and varieties from around the world.
