Thursday, July 3, 2025

10 a.m.

Underhill Park, 2910 E. Hartson

Specials guests: Speakers include Mayor Brown, Council President Wilkerson, Park Board leader Bob Anderson, Riley Stockton of Hoopfest, Dawn Pullin of the Recreation and Conservation office, and Michael Brown of the Spokane Eastside Reunion Association (SERA).

Youth basketball players from the SERA camp will help cut the ribbon.

Underhill’s sport court renovation began late last summer, and was completed on budget and on schedule. The site received two renovated basketball courts, two dedicated pickleball courts, new sidewalks, lighting, landscaping, and fence upgrades. The courts re-opened for community use in last fall, and this spring, surfacing and landscaping were finalized in warmer weather.

The project was funded by City of Spokane Parks & Recreation, a matching grant from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office, and with generous support by Spokane Hoopfest Association, Dick’s Sporting Goods, and No-Li.

If the November Parks & Recreation levy, part of Together Spokane, is approved by voters, every sport court in the City would receive a full renovation as well.

"The community told us, through our Master Plan outreach, they'd liek to see our parks better maintained, and the renovatino of sport courts is one important component to ensuring our parks are functional and welcoming," said Garrett Jones, director, City of Spokane Parks & Recreation. "Seeing a sport court like this, enjoyed by all ages and abilities, infuses positive activation into our neighborhood parks and helps ensure they are safe, healthy gathering places."
