NOTICE:
Statewide software issue causing delays for CPL background checks

The Spokane Police Department is wanting to make community members aware of an issue that has arisen in the Washington State Court System. Due to a software issue, the ability to perform background checks in regard to Concealed Pistol License (CPL) applications will be delayed. The issue stems from a cyber security incident and has affected agencies statewide in their ability to properly perform background checks before issuing CPL's.

SPD will strive to complete CPL applications as soon as practical, but the software issue has created an unavoidable delay. Once the issue has been corrected, CPL applications will be processed.

Some things to keep in mind while using our new online application system:

  • You must be a resident of SPOKANE COUNTY to apply for a CPL. Your application will be withdrawn if you live in another county. If you live in another state, you may apply with us as a nonresident applicant.
  • This new system accepts applications, credit/debit card payments and allows you to schedule an appointment time for fingerprinting.
  • Only credit/debit cards are accepted online. To use cash/check, you must go to the Public Safety Building (PSB).
  • When paying in cash/check, please understand that upon paying, you will then make an appointment for your fingerprints.
